Word Detective includes 5 short reading passages designed to help children practice reading fluently, understanding what they read, and finding clues in the text to support their answers.
For each passage, children read the text and answer one multiple-choice question with three possible answers. After choosing their answer, they flip the activity over to check if they solved the case correctly!
Each passage can be completed in about 1 minute, but the timer is completely flexible and can be adjusted based on the child's reading level and needs. Parents, teachers, and tutors can choose to:
• Use the 1-minute timer for both reading and answering the question
• Time only how long it takes to answer the question after the child has finished reading
• Remove the timer completely for children who may feel stressed or pressured by timed activities
